Senior Research Officer, Pemba, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique

IMPACT Initiatives is a Geneva-based humanitarian NGO specialized in data collection, management, analysis, GIS, and remote sensing. In global partnership with ACTED, IMPACT manages the REACH Initiative, providing impartial, rigorous, and timely data to inform humanitarian response planning and decision-making in crisis-affected contexts.

The Senior Research Officer (SRO) will lead and manage REACH’s multi-sector assessment portfolio in Mozambique, generating quantitative and qualitative evidence to support humanitarian response planning, prioritization, and strategic decision-making (such as Humanitarian Needs Overviews and Humanitarian Response Plans).

Research Cycle Management:

• Lead and manage all stages of the research cycle, including assessment design, methodology development, tool creation, field data collection oversight, analysis, and reporting.
• Ensure data quality, rigorous analysis, and strict adherence to data confidentiality and protection protocols.

Technical Analysis & Information Products:

• Oversee analytical workstreams and produce thematic briefs, reports, presentations, and analytical outputs for humanitarian stakeholders.
• Translate complex dataset findings into actionable insights for operational partners.

Coordination & External Engagement:

• Act autonomously as a mission focal point for specific technical themes or research workstreams with IMPACT HQ in Geneva.
• Lead external engagement with humanitarian clusters, working groups, government counterparts, and UN/NGO partners to align information needs.

Team Management & Capacity Building:

• Provide day-to-day management and technical direction to the research unit and field teams.
• Mentor staff and facilitate capacity-building initiatives across the mission to strengthen research and analytical capabilities.

Education:

• Master’s degree or equivalent in International Studies, Development, Humanitarian Response, Data Science, Political Science, or a related discipline.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in humanitarian settings (assessments, M&E, research design, and analysis).
• Prior experience with multi-sectoral needs assessments (MSNA) and humanitarian coordination mechanisms is strongly preferred.
• Previous experience working in the southern/eastern African region is desirable.

Technical & Language Skills:

• Excellent quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis skills.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; competency in Portuguese is an asset.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, STATA) is an asset.

Operational & Security Context:

• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively and adapt in a complex, challenging security environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Monthly Salary: Between 2,580 CHF and 2,640 CHF gross per month (determined by IMPACT salary grid).
• Living Allowance: 300 USD monthly per diem.
• Accommodation & Food: Provided in the organization’s guesthouse.
• Travel & Relocation: Flight tickets every 6 months, full visa coverage, and luggage allowance (20–100 kg).
