The Counter Poaching Unit (CPU) Assistant Coordinator will work closely with the Peace Parks Foundation CPU team, the Limpopo National Park head ranger, and regional rangers. Reporting directly to the CPU Coordinator, the incumbent will advise, support, and assist park authorities with the implementation, coordination, and administration of counter-poaching, ranger deployments, and security-related field operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational & Security Management:

  • Advise, assist, and support the CPU Coordinator with day-to-day counter-poaching and security operations in Limpopo National Park.
  • Support operational requirements to maximize ranger effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Mentor and advise operations room personnel and radio operators.

Asset, Financial & Administrative Oversight:

  • Support management and control of park assets, equipment, and field infrastructure.
  • Assist in financial management, including operational budgeting, cash flow tracking, and managing Field Ranger (FR) incentive schemes.
  • Manage CPU project administration, compiling monthly reports, incident logs, training records, statistics, and donor updates.

Capacity Building & Quality Assurance:

  • Assist in delivering training, mentorship, and capacity building for field rangers.
  • Conduct internal quality assurance on ranger patrols, firearm handling, radio usage, air support, and K9 unit operations.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Assist the CPU Coordinator in fostering and managing relationships with key conservation and local stakeholders.

Requisitos

Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in counter-poaching and/or wildlife security operations in a similar protected area environment.
  • Demonstrable understanding of counter-poaching strategies and tactical planning.
  • Strong skills in bushcraft, basic administration, team communication, and field training/advising.
  • Experience in off-road driving, vehicle recovery, and basic 4×4 maintenance/repair.

Personal Attributes & Physical Fitness:

  • Fit and healthy to perform field ranger duties alongside teams.
  • High degree of self-discipline, self-driven leadership, and performance management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to live in remote/isolated conditions, including tented accommodation, for extended periods.

Languages & Desirable Assets:

  • Working knowledge or willingness to learn Portuguese and/or Shangaan is an added advantage.
  • Possession of a non-certified fixed-wing aircraft pilot’s license (or willingness to obtain one in service) is an added advantage.
  • Personal vehicle for transport to and from work in Mozambique is an advantage.
